The Phasing and Ideas Series
Series Introduction
Series Prologue
Since about 2015, I’ve had a document across my various digital devices entitled “Phasing and Ideas”. This document has spanned across numerous different text editor platforms from its inception on a simple notepad file on Windows, to Microsoft Word, to Simplenote so I may integrate seamlessly from laptop to phone, to its current day home on Notion.
This document has accrued almost 2000 unique entries over its current lifespan, each with a story attached both long and short that will be expanded upon throughout this series. The entries were significant to me at one point or another in my life, and were compelling enough to write down either because they inspired me in some sort of way (likely through their eloquence), or for the mental model they helped me understand or revealed.
Each of these entries had reason to make it into the document, this series will explore themes around the entry itself, its origin story of how I discovered it once upon a time, what it meant to me back then, and what it means to me now. We’ll also dive into why the entry might be of help or of significance to any person who discovers it at that moment, through these articles.
Humble Beginnings
This series is about me sharing the grand dialogues that have helped me navigate the world thus far; scriptures that have made and unmade me; and general keepsakes in the written word that have helped me better understand myself in the pursuit of a meaningful life. For a long time I wanted to gatekeep these entries… thinking that my uniqueness as an individual came from the amalgamation of these esoteric inspirations and keepsakes. I used to equate this thinking to the dragon Smaug from The Hobbit series… hoarding all that gold beneath The Lonely Mountain, attaching his sense of identity to his wealth of possessions.
With time, this pathway of reasoning has taken less and less gravity in my mental space both consciously and unconsciously. Starting this series of articles I hope is another vote toward that. With more information, I now believe these sorts of ideas and inspirations themselves are necessary to be shared, and ultimately it’s how you interpret the ideas and what you do with them that will show your uniqueness to the world. While I’ll be writing about how each entry in this series is interpreted and significant to me, I have no doubt readers will read the same lines and feel something different based on their experiences — it’s that subjectivity in all forms that sets the foundation for the creative act and drives our humanity towards exploration in infinite domains. One of the celestial aspects of this sentient, finite, life.
TLDR;
To summarize, this article is an introduction to a series aimed to expand on the stories of the ~2000 little phrases and axioms I have met with over the years, each meaningful to me at one point or another in my life. I’m sharing them in hopes that you, reader, might derive some joy, inspiration, or solace from this series. Either through the entries themselves, my spin on them, or the general tale of how the entry came to be found in the first place. Doubly, I’m sharing them to begin my journey of putting creative work into the world, good or bad, because one day I’d like to be experienced at this writing, publishing, and sharing content online thing... and that doesn’t happen without starting.
May we both get what we want out of this endeavour. Lastly, I wish you well, reader.
Without further ado…
